Jack's Mannequin at Voodoofest, New Orleans

Inspiration is everywhere. And Bond's photos capture two of her greatest passions — both of which may be a bit wild: nature and musicians.

Whether she’s at the back of the stage shooting a red-hot zydeco band, or she’s laying on an ice sheet capturing an attack by a red fox hungry for prairie dog, Bond is like a predator herself. She anticipates what her subjects are about to do, reacts instantly to the action, then… CLICK! “Wow!” she gasps. “What a rush!”

Bond’s photographs have been broadcast on Discovery Channel Canada and published by environmental nonprofits, online science magazines, newspapers, including The Washington Post, and universities, including a featured article in The American Naturalist (University of Chicago Press). Her images have also been used for instruction by LucasFilm’s Industrial Light and Magic and varied academic institutions, appeared on CD and DVD covers, and used as promotion for musical bands. Hundreds of Bond’s photos of the federally threatened Utah prairie dog — shot on location in the wild — will appear in a book on its behavioral ecology by Dr. John L. Hoogland (University of Maryland, Frostburg). The collection features some of the world's only known shots of their kind for the species — particularly pertaining to predation and copulation — and may be viewed in the photo gallery below. Book publication is planned for 2009.
